General Committee

Social Secretary – Yashil Gopee

Mauritian born but raised in the UK, it is likely that I will be the subject of any meme relating to Londoners. I’m a student of International Relations at the University of Edinburgh. My areas of interests are: the development of post-colonial states, the position of the UK in a post-Brexit world and most issues of foreign affairs.

Ragnor

Currently studying Artificial Intelligence with Biomedicine at the University of Edinburgh. I am interested in global issues such as poverty, global warming and human rights and strongly support the federalisation of the European Union.

Justinius

Editor – Justinus Steinhorst

Hi! My name is Justinus and I am a second year Economics and Politics student. I am an avid football football fan, actively involved in the university’s MUN society and have a passion for reading and writing politico-economic journalism. My areas of interest include EU trade/macroeconomic policy, migration, and of course the ongoing Article 50 negotiations between Brussels and Westminster. In my free time I enjoy sipping on an IrnBru whilst shaking my head in despair at the latest Brexit shenanigans.”>     Hi! My name is Justinus and I am a second year Economics and Politics student. Born and raised in Berlin, I am an Economics and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh. Speaking up to five languages on a good day, I consider myself a citizen of the world (or, as Theresa May would say, a citizen of nowhere). I am interested in a variety of subjects in the economic and political fields, especially when the two overlap.

Michal

Editor –  Michal Solčanský

I study Economics with Finance in my second year. I prefer not to cover political topics, instead focusing on economic issues, for example, fiscal oversight of EU member states, ECB monetary policy and (lack) of structural reforms in the euro area. If you want to talk, visit Pollock Halls, as I am an RA in one of the houses.

Eoin

Acting Publicity Officer – Eoin Burgin

Dia dhuit! (Hello!) I’m Eoin, and I’m your publicity officer at EUSoc. I’ve been interested in the European Union for a long time; as a human geographer, I am fascinated by the diversity of Europe’s people, languages and cultures, and as a dual UK-Irish citizen, internationalism has always been a part of my identity. I’m looking forward to making 2018-19 a great year for the EUSoc!

Alex

Speaking Curator – Alex Goetz

People who meet me often say I’m the most American person they know—and that’s not just because I wear the above outfit absolutely everywhere I go. I love baseball and American football, and could watch or play them all day long. Nevertheless, I have a keen interest in non-US countries like those in the EU such as Poland, Germany, and…those other countries! I truly believe that speeches can change minds and teach loads. I am excited to help the EU society do just that. People who meet me often say I’m the most American person they know—and that’s not just because I wear the above outfit absolutely everywhere I go.
